Died in Walsall

Died in Walsall

Sad news reached me only last week that my Born in Walsall mural has been demolished. It had been there for nearly 4 years, having only taken 4 days to paint back in August 2004. The massive expanse in the centre of town started to adopt a free car parking scheme, and no doubt business was booming in the town for a few months.

The painting was probably on the best Spot-In-Town®. It never got covered or painted over.

Then Urban Splash moved in and decided to surround the 'car park' with blue hoardings (reminiscent of the Olympic preperations in East London), blocking any pedestrian or vehicular traffic's view of the painting. So, left 'un-dogged' for this ammount of time, in a town that is in a rapid stage of re-development is a blessing. The whole site of the ill-fated skate park WS2 in Walsall is now flattened.

I don't think the council have even sorted out somewhere else for a skatepark.

Below is a Google map of the site, with the New Art Gallery on the right, the 'car park' dead centre and the building just to the left , facing the gallery, is the skatepark RIP.
